Post a Tribute to Helen DeVos

Dear Mr. DeVos and Family, Please accept our sincere sympathy in the passing of Helen DeVos, dear wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. We continue to pray for you as grieve this loss and learn to live with the reality that she is not here but with her Lord and Savior. Nearly two months have gone by since Mrs. DeVos entered God's Heavenly Kingdom, but she is not forgotten. Her legacy stretches to nearly all corners of the world, including Western New Mexico, home of Rehoboth Christian School, Zuni Christian Mission School, Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services and a number of Christian Reformed Churches that make up Classis Red Mesa. We are truly grateful for her sincere passion and devotion to the Navajo and Zuni people and her desire to spread the love of Christ through the work of the various ministries in this region. Her interest started when she was a student at Calvin College where she became friends with Roland Kamps, whose father was a missionary/pastor at Rehoboth from 1921-1957. Mr. Kamps grew up in Rehoboth and intrigued Mrs. DeVos with his stories of the "wild west." This was the beginning of her passion and devotion which has deepened throughout the years. I will never forget when you, Mr. DeVos, along with Mrs. DeVos, visited Rehoboth Christian School and Zuni Christian Mission School for the first time and worshiped at Bethany Christian Reformed Church. While conditions were rather rough, Mrs. DeVos was always gracious, down-to-earth and genuinely interested in everyone she met and interested in learning about the people of this region. I remember how she didn't hesitate one bit to walk across a bumpy dirt road to meet a Zuni family baking bread in their outdoor mud oven. This was just one example of how she embraced her experiences while here. We are truly grateful for the impact the two of you have made on this small corner of God's Kingdom - the results of which are further reaching than any of us can fully imagine. During this Christmas season we pray God will give you an extra measure of comfort, peace and joy in the knowledge that Mrs. DeVos is among the heavenly throng praising God and singing, "Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests." With warm best wishes, Ina M. Burmeister, Development Director Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services
